Our environmental legacy in Indonesia

This short video (“I had a Dream, I had a Nightmare”) was premiered at our “Connections” events in 2024.

It is our artistic way to remind our viewers about the massive plastic pollution issue that our oceans are facing.

The Carpe Diem Holistic team sees it and feels it very clearly, as we work and spend so much time in the ocean; but we would like to expand such awareness even to people who don't get to witness it firsthand, as this is an issue that affects everyone and should be shown, spoken about, dealt with openly.

We have been training, photographing, working and living in Indonesia for a few years; this is the fourth most populous country in the world (with a population of over 270 million) and the second-largest plastic polluter in the world after China.

The country produces over 3 million tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste a year, of which over 1 million tonnes ends up in the sea. In addition, approximately 10 billion plastic carry bags (equal to 85,000 tonnes) are released into its local environment each year.

This unmanaged plastic waste has deeply affected Indonesian rivers and the ocean, and not only.

We have raised this issue in our “Connections” events as we hope and believe that through education, outreach and collaborations, this issue can be tackled on multiple levels.

This is the environmental legacy we commit to: doing our little to protect and educate about the wonderful environment we are lucky to call our home and our workplace… volunteering our time, skills, energy in order to give back and remind everyone that nothing should be taken for granted, and we are responsible for our choices and actions.

We try to thread lightly on this planet, and surround ourselves with inspiring people who support and stimulate each other to create a more sustainable world, one step at the time.

If we all play our part, nature can heal. No action is too small to make a difference.

What YOU can do to contribute to the cause:

  • Support sustainable businesses

  • Reduce your plastic footprint: say no to single-use plastics whenever possible, carry reusable bags and water bottles, and choose products with minimal packaging

  • Spread awareness: talk to your friends and family about the issue and encourage them to make conscious choices

  • Donate or volunteer: support organizations working to address plastic pollution in Indonesia and beyond

  • Support sustainable businesses

Remember: every action, however small, can make a difference.

The ocean is made of drops… but without them, there would be no ocean…

Together we can…
