Connections

The concept of interconnection emphasizes that no object of geographical study can be viewed in isolation: places (as well as the people and organizations within them) are interconnected with other places in a variety of ways.

The “Connections” events aim at acknowledging the links existing within our ecosystems (between humans and nature, between species and between like-minded people) and we hosted such events in Indonesia, which is part of the most diverse ecosystem in the world: the Coral Triangle...

We liaised with local artists, researchers and environmental organizations in order to deliver entertaining as well as educational events where arts and science mixed to create a unique and stimulating atmosphere.

Once again, we worked with evocative comparisons in our art,

pairing black and white photos of animals and humans enjoying their time in calm waters:

feeling at ease,

feeling one with their environment.

This is how we feel in the water too…

And this is the impression we want to share,

the suggestion we would like our fellow humans to embrace:

to long for that calm,

to feel that peace…

to respect nature,

and to feel humble and grateful in front of Her.

May our Art be an advocate for Nature,

and for those who don’t have a voice.

Sea Connection Art:

Sea Connection Art by Simone Tomazela

This short video (“I had a Dream, I had a Nightmare”) is our artistic way to remind our viewers about the plastic pollution our oceans face.

The Carpe Diem Holistic team sees it very clearly, as we work and spend so much time in the ocean; but we would like to expand such awareness even to people who don't get to witness it firsthand, as this is an issue that affects everyone and should be shown, spoken about, dealt with openly.

We have presented it as a premiere in our “Connections” events in Indonesia as this is the fourth most populous country (with a population of 250 million) and second-largest plastic polluter in the world after China. The country produces 3.2 million tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste a year, of which about 1.29 million tonnes ends up in the sea. In addition, approximately 10 billion plastic carry bags, equal to 85,000 tonnes, are released into its local environment each year.

This unmanaged plastic waste has deeply affected Indonesian rivers and the ocean.

We have raised this issue in our “Connections” events as we hope and believe that through education, connections and collaborations, this issue can be tackled on multiple levels.
